Reports confirm that publishers launched the book outside in front of their stall in protest.
Taslima Nasrin tweeted, "The PBS publisher with friends has released my book under the open sky at Kolkata Book Fair. Book release in the AC hall was banned".
Nasrin earlier vented her anger at "religious fanatics" soon after she learnt that the organisers of Kolkata Book Fair had cancelled the launch of her book.
Speculations were rife that the fair organizers- ‘Publishers and Booksellers Guild’ had bowed to the demands of Muslim hawks.
Asked what she thought about the stalling of the book release, Nasrin said, ``Kolkata, a city of progressive! A book release even w/o my presence not possible! All political parties, all organisations afraid of fanatics! But how long’.
Her latest book, `Nirbasan` (Exile), talks about her days spent away from her `adopted city` Kolkata after she was deported from the city four years ago.
In a similar incident, Salman Rushdie was barred from attending the Jaipur Literary Festival last week. Salman accused the Rajasthan government of misleading him to keep him away from the fest.
